tl;dr this website place to share my thoughts, photos, projects & experiences online

Hi, welcome! This post is intended as a short welcome & explanatory piece on why this site was made and what is its purpose.

why & how this site was made?

In late 2021 I started Instagram account for photos - apsimatymas - because sharing photos with friends via DMs was becoming cumbersome as I started taking more photos.

In 2022-2024, Instagram served great as a place to share photos and as an archive to look back through the memories. I completed the 365 challenge, then two exchange semesters while taking & sharing at least one photo each day. However, in late 2024 I cut down my social media use, most notably Reddit and discovered the remaining need to share my thoughts, works, creations, not only photos.

Instagram wouldn't do, as it's pictures-orientated and you can't format text. Substack and all similar blogging platforms would be okay, however they felt too simple. During internship at Wix.com, I discovered the whole Wix ecosystem and various solutions for presence online. So ultimately, decided to make a site for blog with Wix due to:

  • good apps & integrations ecosystem - most notably, Wix Blog and Wix Portfolio.

  • design & interactions capabilities - if I'd like to make something more than images, videos or texts..

  • responsive web design support - aka, can design both the desktop and mobile version properly, which is awesome for having control over all site visitors experience.

  • working as freelancer - web design is a great skill to have.

That said, the design freedom was paralysing, so this site was originally started in 2025 autumn, published to domain on December of 2025 and now it's... March of 2026.

Went through 3 redesigns IIRC, spent way too much time selecting fonts and color shades, ultimately realized the didn't really matter - so just went with what looked good and was simple to use.

what's the point of this site?

This site is a place on the internet to share:

  • images - photos, graphic design works;

  • videos - that's a plan for the future, as currently not having gear for shooting video;

  • texts - like this one;

  • projects - document my thought process, project progress, step details in blog posts. Do I have ideas? Yes. Am I paralyzed to start? Also, yes.

  • interactive digital experiences - mayhaps;

  • etc.

topics? what's coming

As I don't want to stick to a particular theme or archetype to avoid feeling limited, there's no definite list, but from the top of my head:

  • reviews - audio gear, hardware, books, games, etc.;

  • photography;

  • minimalism, digital minimalism (maybe);

  • new or existing hobbies;

  • reflections;

  • etc.

other things

it's a simple site?

Yes, though I don't intend to keep it like this all the time. For now, it's simple and basic as its goal is to be a place to share. As of now, this site is not meant for professional use either, so I might make a separate site for my freelance/professional work.

why English, not Lithuanian?

I intend to share content (example - niche item reviews) which might be read internationally.

is free?

More or less. I don't intend to monetize content that I create for the sake of expression or passion. However, I'm open to monetization if I'll be providing content or assets that take substantial resources to create and/or would be used for commercial benefit.

inspirations?

Most notable:

  • James Scholz at jvscholz.com / Youtube for non-glamorous content

  • Lukas Šitkus at sitkus.com who made me realize one can have blog without being too serious and share whatever they want

  • Crin at crinacle.com for no bullsh*t attitude in the content

  • Cait Flanders whose The Year of Less reminded me that blogs still exist

  • impressive amounts of information that theremingoat.com is posting
